Bongiwe Gangeni named Stanchart regional boss

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Nov 16 – Bongiwe Gangeni has been appointed as Standard Chartered Head, Consumer, Private & Business Banking (CPBB) for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

The announcement was made by the Chief Executive Officer of CPBB. Judy Hsu, who stated that Bongiwe’s deep understanding of the region made her the best fit to take up the mantle.

“This is an exciting time for Standard Chartered and Bongiwe’s deep understanding of the region will be invaluable as we continue to innovate and accelerate our digital transformation. I look forward to welcoming Bongiwe to Standard Chartered.” Hsu said.

Upon Gangeni’s appointment, she would be based in Dubai when she joins the Bank in March 2022.

Gangeni previously served as a member of Absa bank’s Group Executive Committee for the last 14 years. She was also the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Retail and Business Banking and the Head of Relationship Banking.

“I am confident that Bongiwe’s expertise and knowledge will prove vital to the Bank’s growth in the region. Her appointment will be pertinent in our ability to provide further excellence in our consumer, private, and business banking arms and strengthen relationships with existing and potential clients,” said Sunil Kaushal, Regional CEO, Africa & Middle East.

He added that her successful career would help strengthen the bank’s banking arms as they continue to invest in better service provision for customers across the regions.

Gangeni holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School. She also holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science and has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
