NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4 – Fifty-three percent of companies globally face a risk of supply chain attacks, Acronis, a global technology cybersecurity company has revealed.
In a report dubbed Acronis Cyber Readiness Report 2021, the tech company revealed that fifty-three percent of 3600 IT managers and remote employees working at small and medium-sized companies across 18 countries across the globe face a greater risk of supply chain attacks from not using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions.
“Despite the globally recognized attacks on trusted software vendors, like Kaseya or SolarWinds, over half of IT leaders believe that using “known, trusted software” is sufficient protection – making them an easy target,” said the report.
Among the highest recorded types of attacks, this year were phishing attacks, which amounted to 58 percent, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks at 39.8 percent, and Malware attacks amounting to 36.5 percent.
The report further revealed that across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, the average of companies experiencing a cyber-attack was “at least once a day” and “at least once an hour”.
This was an increase from the recorded number of attacks happening in 2020 from 68 percent to 80 percent this year.
“Only a small number of companies have taken the time to modernize their IT stack with integrated data protection and cybersecurity. The threat landscape will continue to grow, and automation is the only path to greater security, lower costs and improved efficiency, and reduced risks,” the report added.
