KTB named Africa’s Leading board at World Travel Awards 2021

NAIROBI, Kenya, October 22-  The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has been named the top ‘African Leading Tourist Board’’ at the World Travel Awards, Africa and Indian Ocean 2021.

This makes it the eighth time in 10 years that the board has received the award cementing its position as Africa’s top global tourist destination.

KTB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Betty Radier while commenting on the award, noted that it presents another opportunity to market the country better and bring forth more revenue for the country.

“We are delighted to be recognized for our efforts in marketing the destination in the last year. It is yet another great achievement for us as the destination’s marketer since it shows that our efforts have been effective,” she said.

KTB won against Botswana Tourism Organization, Egyptian Tourism Authority, Rwanda Development Board, and South Africa Tourism among others.

“Once again, Kenya has proven to be a top global destination. We shall continue with our commitment towards ensuring that we maintain this for many years to come and we will keep on profiling our destination,” she added.

The awards are held annually to celebrate top brands and services across the tourism and hospitality sector. The brands are selected by qualified executives working within the travel and tourism industry and the consumer buyer.

Overall, Kenya’s tourism industry bagged 13 awards in different categories.

Nairobi was named  ‘Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination’ with Kenyatta International Convention Centre collecting ‘Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’.

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club bagged Africa’s Leading Hotel award while Hemingways Watamu was named Kenya’s Leading Beach Resort. 

The Norfolk was named as Africa’s Leading City Hotel 2021 with Olare Mara winning the award for Africa’s Leading Luxury Tented Safari Camp.

The award for Africa’s Leading Sports Resort was won by Ocean Sports Resort located in Watamu.

Kenya Airways was named as Africa’s Leading Airline 2021 and Africa’s Leading Airline in the Business Class category while the Port of Mombasa was named as Africa’s Leading Cruise Port.
