Kisumu, Kenya, Sept 23 – Three suspects have been charged at the Kisumu Chief Magistrate’s Court with two counts related to the smuggling of sugar worth Shs 1.2 million.
The three denied counts of possession of uncustomed goods contrary to Section 200(d)(iii) of EACCMA, 2004 and that of conveying uncustomed goods contrary to section 199 (b) as read with section 199(c) EACCMA,2004.
The trio was arrested on September 14 at Sikata-Kimilili Road in Bungoma County where they were found in possession of four hundred bags of sugar each weighing 50 kg products of Uganda.
The suspects who were identified as Caroline Achieng Kitisia, Mburu Itotia, and Edwin Sikuku were unable to produce valid importation documents.
They were each released on an Shs 300,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on October 4 and heard on November 1.
