Learners in Machakos to benefit from Sh8.9 mn LG- funded facilities

Machakos, Kenya – Learners in Machakos county are set to benefit from facilities worth Shs 8.9 Million which were funded by LG Electronics and Habitat for Humanity Kenya.

More than 600 learners including 225 hearing-impaired children from Machakos school for the Deaf and Early Childhood Development (ECD) learners at Kyumbi school in Mavoko Constituency are the beneficiaries of the facilities which were handed over on Thursday.

They include a library, ablution wing, a borehole system, two new ECD classrooms, kitchen blocks, and latrines.

LG Electronics Managing Director Sa Nyoung Kim said the facilities will promote equal learning opportunities and improve learning infrastructure, water, sanitation, and hygiene for underprivileged children within the constituency.

“We believe in increasing social value by investing in underprivileged communities,” he said during the handing over ceremony.

Habitat for Humanity Kenya National Director Ruth Odera added that the new facilities and equipment would significantly address inequalities in access to education in the local communities.

“Providing inclusive education for children with disabilities, and those from poor, marginalized areas is crucial in addressing inequalities in access to quality education,” Odera said.

Additionally, LG donated commercial washers and dryers for dormitories, refrigerators, and microwave ovens for the kitchens, dining halls, and staff rooms, that would be distributed equally to both schools.
