Nairobi, Kenya Sep 28 – Absa Bank Kenya in conjunction with Computer for Schools Kenya (CFSK) has invested Shs 23 Million in a nationwide project that aims to establish 66 computer labs and donate 1500 computers to different schools across the country.
The initiative was launched on Monday at the Kikuyu Township Primary School where the two donated 20 desktop computers that would enhance digital literacy among the learners.
Speaking during the event, Absa Bank’s Head of Sustainability and Citizenship Jane Waiyaki said that the project was one that was vital for the development of the students within the country.
“We are leveraging the power of technology to assist in learning, imparting core skills, and developing the educational potential of young students in Kenya,” Waiyaki said.
The computers donated would be fully networked and fitted with relevant software to support learning for students across the country.
The project would also see schools equipped with desks and tables refurbished from a waste collection exercise that was undertaken by the bank last year.
“We have set aside an investment of KES 23 million towards setting up computer labs with upcycled computers as well as repurposed seats and tables across primary schools,” she said. “As a responsible financial institution, we recognize the importance of setting a foundation of digital skills for the next generation,” she added.
