NAIROBI, Kenya July 20 – Synresins Limited, the largest manufacturer of synthetic resin in East and Central Africa credits SYSPRO Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for improving its business operations and more fundamentally aiding its growth.

Established in 1982, the mid-sized company which has a total of 75 employees prides itself in producing a range of solvent based, water based and specialised resins that are used across the paint and coating, ink, textile, polyesters and adhesive industries.

Based in Nairobi’s Industrial area, thecompany provides various grades of resins in the market backed with excellent research and development facilities to ensure quality products.

Synresins Chief Executive Officer Mira Shah attributes the company’s success over the years to the SYSPRO ERP which she notes has been instrumental in helping the company attain a return on investment of about 90 percent and a 40 percent increase in employee productivity.

“Technology has played a very big role in what we do. We obviously have had SYSPRO on board for a long time. Why does a company have any ERP system? in very simple words is to reduce cost and time in business operational processes,” she said.

But what exactly is an ERP?

ERP Software automates and integrates core business processes such as customer orders, production, inventory control, and reporting. An ERP system can drive significant improvements in manufacturing, distribution, and financial management.

Synresins first contact with SYSPRO was back in 2013. The company deployed SYSPRO 6 after it realised there was a need to get a software solution that complimented the dynamics of the growing business.

“Transactions were slow to process, and timely reports difficult to generate. Company operations had slowed down,” Shah noted.

Ms Shah noted Synresins became the first company to upgrade to SYSPRO 8 in Africa in 2018. It has 20 active users spread across Finance, Production and Supply Chain departments.

“The main driving factor for us to upgrade to the latest SYSPRO module was that we really needed to generate reports that were customizable, interactive and easy to analyze in order to make timely and well-informed business decisions,” she said.

Adding: “SYSPRO as a company has great customer support. Our transition to SYSPRO 8 had many challenges, but through tremendous support from the SYSPRO team, we were able to navigate through and enjoy the benefits of the upgrade. Despite the teething problems we experienced during the upgrade, I would highly recommend SYSPRO 8 as it has great features.”

With SYSPRO 8, Ms Shah underscored that the company has been able to get more value addition which has led to the simplification and streamlining of its operations.

“I can generate a sales or inventory report at a click of a button. My staff do not have to spend hours putting together reports.  Extracting a report from SYSPRO 6 was a bit of a challenge because it was not possible to extract the reports in excel or PDF formats,” she noted.

Ms Shah noted that SYSPRO 8 has made it very easy for Synresins to analyze complex data and get business insights that enable timely decision making.

“If there is SYSPRO 9, I don’t mind being the first company to upgrade,” she said.

Synresins Head of IT Charles Kimani

Synresins Head of IT Charles Kimani explains that SYSPRO’s simplicity is its main distinction from other applications and what has made Synresins install it in the organization.

“Every department is taken care of. SYSPRO worked for us because it enables our users to catch up fast as they can when using the system,” he said.

Caroline Wambui from the finance department noted that with SYSPRO, profit tracking and data has been tremendously simplified.

Another module that Synresins is taking advantage of is the Landed Cost Tracking module to track their raw material imports. Importing involves dealing with many agents, a load of paperwork and payments.
