NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 2 Telecommunications service provider airtel has now increased the cost of making calls by 0.78 shillings.
Airtel through a statement said the move follows the approval of Finance Act, 2021 that was gazette by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
“Following the Government’s amendment to the Finance Bill, the excise duty on telephone and internet services has been revised from 15% to 20%, effective 1st July 2021,” reads airtel statement.
“In view of this change, Airtel Kenya will increase its headline voice tariff to 2 Bob plus taxes which will equate to Ksh2.78 per minute,” it added.
The firm however assured its customers that the prices of all data and voice bundles remain unchanged.
Therefore, there will be no changes to the Amazing, Unliminet and Tubonge bundles.
The telco firm becomes the first to announce the new calling charges as Safaricomand Telkom Kenya are yet to issue the new price reviews.
