Tourism Regulatory Authority warns public against unlicensed online tour guides

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 24-The Tourism and Regulatory Authority has warned the public against unlicensed online tour guides and companies who have been defrauding unsuspecting tourists.

The regulator through a statement said they have observed that the culprits often pull down their websites and other relevant accounts once they have received payments.

The Authority also noted that some restaurants and hotels have been falsely marketing themselves as having attained various star ratings from the authority.

“Others have continued to operate without relevant licences from the Authority, and now risking prosecution for doing so,” reads TRA’s statement.

Going forward, Tourism Regulatory Authority has warned that anyone caught to have committed the above offences will be punished by law and can attract at least 12 months jail term among other penalties.

It has further advised members of the public to demand and check a TRA license number when seeking tourism and hospitality services.

This includes short term rentals in order to be certain that they are engaging genuine service provider and get value for money.

The statements comes in the wake of the much hyped WRC Safari Rally to be held in Naivasha from June 24 to27th, that has attracted several tourists across Africa.
