NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 26 – Employers and enterprises of whatever nature including public bodies, the private sector, government offices, and others have been directed to allow employees to work from home.
Speaking while he addressed the nation during the 15th presidential address on the coronavirus pandemic, the President however said the directive is with the exception of employees working in critical or essential services that cannot be delivered remotely.
“That all employers and enterprises of whatever nature including public bodies, the private sector, government offices, and others are directed to allow employees to work from home, with the exception of employees working in critical or essential services that cannot be delivered remotely, until further notified,” Kenyatta said.
This is not the first time the government has made the directive.
Last March, the president advised companies in the public and private sectors to encourage remote work, to fight the spread of the disease.
Kenyatta says the new measures have been informed by the spike in the number of cases.
Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate stood at 2.6 percent at the end of January, but has jumped to 22 percent as of Monday 22nd March.
