NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 27 – The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has announced that domestic flights in Kenya will continue to operate until Monday, March 29, 2021 noon, after which they cease operations until further notice.
KCAA Director General Gilbert Kibe through a statement said the move is in accordance with the President’s directive over the cessation of movement by road, rail, or air in and out of the one zone area, which includes Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, and Nakuru counties.
“Operations of aircraft shall be allowed until the stated deadline, and thereafter cease any movements,” said Kibe.
To meet the traveling demand during this period, Kenya Airways has increased the number of scheduled flights between Nairobi-Mombasa and Nairobi- Kisumu until Monday noon.
At the same time, KQ said travelers affected by the suspension may change their bookings for later travel or request a refund with all penalties waived.
“We sincerely apologize to all our customers for the inconvenience and reiterate that our crew, staff, and country’s safety remains our highest priority,” said KQ’s Acting Chief Commercial and Customer office.
All international flights will continue operating as per schedule.
Similarly, Jambojet has advised all passengers scheduled to travel after 2nd March 2021 to hold on to their tickets, and their flights will be rescheduled to a later date at no extra cost.
The value of these tickets will remain valid for a period of 12 months from the 29th March 2021.
The airline will also continue to operate daily direct flights between Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret.
Domestic flights have been in operation since July 15 2020 while international flights resumed operations August 1, 2020.
The airlines are now staring at a bleak future where the aviation industry was struggling to keep up from the losses witnessed in 2020, after flight suspension both locally and internationally.
