NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 8-The Kenya Railways has now made the 10 pm Express Standard Gauge Railway train a permanent feature.
A statement released by the authority shows that the Madaraka Express Train due arrival time in Nairobi and Mombasa has been set as 3.35 am.
The nighttime service will be effective from January 9, 2021.
“In addition to the Inter-county train (morning) & Express train (afternoon), we have introduced a night train as from 9th January 2021,” reads the statement.
“This will be an Express service departing Nairobi and Mombasa at 10:00 pm to arrive at their destination at 3:35 am,” KR added.
Kenya Railways has further advised passengers that the option to book will soon be accessible.
The announcement comes a week after Kenya Railways said it is set to operate the third pair of passenger trains on its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) service operating in the night.
Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga had earlier said that the night service train is aimed at complementing the demand for travel after schools across the country resumed operation this week.
SGR has been operating two pairs of trains between Nairobi and Mombasa with journeys starting at 8 am and 3 pm.
