SafeBoda Exits Kenya as Virus Bites On

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 17- Ride hailing app safe boda has announce its exit from the Kenyan market by November 27th, 2020.

The firm through a statement said the decision has been influenced by the impact of the coronavirus disease which has affected the business operation in the region.

“Safeboda has made a very difficult decision to pause rides and send services from the 27th of November 2020,” reads the statement.

“While Nairobi is seeing some economic recovery from COVID-19, boda transportation has been hit hard. This has meant our business cannot sustainably operate in this environment and unfortunately, the timeline for a full recovery is not certain,” it added.

The operator has further encouraged users to exhaust wallet balances before November 27 by taking rides and sending packages.

“From now until the 27th of November we will be promoting our safe Boda riders and this will be a chance for customers to use their remaining wallet balances to take rides or send packages,” the firm said.

Safeboda first started its operations in Kenya in 2018.

The operator has employed over 4000 riders in Nairobi.

The firm will however continue with its expansion program in Uganda and Nigeria.
