CMA Confirms Wycliffe Shamiah as CEO

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20- The Capital Markets Authority has confirmed Wyckliffe Shamiah as the firm’s Chief Executive.
CMA board chairman James Ndegwa through a letter to staff said that Shamiah’s confirmation comes after approval from the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
“I am delighted to advise you that following an open and competitive recruitment process, the Cabinet Secretary National Treasury and Planning Ukur Yatani, has approved the appointment of Wyckliffe Shamiah as the Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Authority, ” said Ndegwa.
Shamiah had been appointed in an acting capacity following the resignation of ex-boss Paul Muthaura.
The board expressed confidence in Shamiah’s appointment saying that his confirmation as the CEO of the firm provides continuity.
“It is also important to note that Shamiah’s appointment to the position in a substansive capacity having acted since the beginning of the year, provides stability and continuity at a time that the authority, the Capital Markets, industry players, issuers and investors, and Indeed Kenya and the globe, deal with the disruption and devastation brought about by COVID-19,” Ndegwa added.
Before his appointment in an acting role, Shamiah worked as CMA’s Director of Market Operations, a position he held since 2011.
