Naivas Takes Over Shoprite’s Space at Waterfront Mall Karen

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 22- Retail chain Naivas will be opening its 66th store at the Waterfront Mall, Karen, a space that was previously occupied by Shoprite.

The supermarket through a statement announced that the new store will help create more than 100 jobs, at a time when many people have lost their jobs owing to the departure of Shoprite.

“The new store will offer 120 jobs directly and twice the number to third-party partners. Pointing to the outlet’s continued plan to promote local businesses while offering employment opportunities to Kenyans,” said Naivas.

“We are delighted at the prospect of opening our 66th store at the Waterfront Mall as it offers us an exciting opportunity to provide Karen shoppers the Naivas Foodmarket experience at their doorstep. We have not had a presence in the larger Karen area which has been a long-standing request by our shoppers, we are finally able to fulfill this with the new development,” said Naivas Chief Commercial Officer, Willy Kimani.

At the same time, Naivas says the store is expected to offer shoppers the food market shopping experience with a Focus on everyday fresh produce that guarantees value for money.

Shoprite announced the closure of its two remaining stores in Kenya in the coming months.

The company opened its first supermarket in Kenya in 2018 and has continued to receive competition from other retailers such as Naivas and Carrefour.

Shoprite was left with two stores in Nairobi -at Garden City and Westgate malls which it now plans to close, exiting the Kenyan market.
