NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 – The internet never forgets, if in doubt, just ask Pauline Njoroge.
The popular blogger got a job as a member of the Board of Tourism Regulatory Authority and lost it in less than 72 hours, thanks to a resurfaced Facebook post she wrote years ago.
In the revocation of Njoroge’s appointment, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala said the Ministry had ‘just seen what she had tweeted in the past that Nairobi National Park was useless’.
“We do not want to be associated with such people and such thinking,” Balala added.
In the disparaging post, Njoroge said the park makes no economic sense and described it as economically redundant.
Social media users were quick to bring the post to the fore, criticizing the ministry’s decision of hiring her.
“We regret we did not know what she had said in the past. We want to take this opportunity to thank Kenyans on social media for highlighting what we had missed during our background check on her,” Balala said.
The Ministry has with immediate effect replaced her with Standard Group Journalist Najma Ismail.
