NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 17- The Kenya Association of Manufactures (KAM) has appointed Mucai Kunyiha as the new chair on a two year term, replacing Sachen Gudka.
Kunyiha is the current Managing Director of Cooper (K) Brands limited.
His appointment, which was made on Thursday, comes at a time when manufacturers in the country are facing low demands and reduced earnings owing to the coronavirus pandemic that has ravaged the country’s economy.
A report by KAM and KPMG last month revealed that 78 percent of manufactures are currently looking at all avenues of cutting costs.
“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be determined as it continues to unleash damage locally and globally, it demands big changes which we must explore urgently and diligently including the development rebound strategies and policies that will see the economy rebound and increase the sector’s contribution to GDP exponentially, ” Kunyiha said in a statement.
The new chair added that KAM remains committed to advocating for the development of coherent policies, support industrial growth, pushing for predictability in fiscal and regulations and supporting SME’s.
The new chair will be deputised by Rajan Shah who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Capwell Industries Limited.
The outgoing chair will remain as an ex- officio member of the board, playing an advisory role in directing the growth of the association.
