UBA bank commits Sh15mn to COVID-19 response fund

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 11 – The United Bank for Africa, Kenya, has donated Sh15 million, through the UBA Foundation, to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund established by President Kenyatta to mobilize funds.

The donation is aimed at supporting the Kenyan Government in its efforts to supply the much-needed relief materials and critical health care facilities as it battles to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on the donation, James Olubayi, Chairman, UBA Kenya commended the efforts of the Kenyan Government in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As companies worldwide continue to invest funds, innovate, and provide resources and manpower to fight COVID-19,  UBA Plc., Group, as a pan-African banking group, believes that fighting the pandemic should not be left to African governments alone. There is a role for corporate entities like ours in putting a pan-African response to the fight against Corona virus global pandemic”.

UBA Kenya’s donation is part of the USD14 million donated by UBA Group, through the UBA Foundation, to national governments across all its 20 presence countries in Africa, to catalyse a comprehensive pan-African response to the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic.
