NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 21 – Organizers of the Founder of the Year Awards (FOYA) have announced the fourth edition of the annual award themed “Have it All” and invited nominations for the 14 categories available to be competed for.

The annual award seeks to award and celebrate outstanding young entrepreneurs who create jobs through delivery of practical, and commercially viable solutions that are innovative and sustainable.

Eligible young entrepreneurs in East Africa have until February 14, 2020 to get nominated for the 2020 FOYA awards whose aim is to also motivate entrepreneurs who are yet to start their own businesses to join the fray.

“What makes FOYA unique is the impact it has on young entrepreneurs. Rather than awarding

successful seasoned entrepreneurs, we award the young founders running startups,” said Founder of the awards Moranga Innocent.

After running in Kenya for three years, FOYA 2020 will mark a milestone as the award spreads its wings to include other countries in East Africa, thereby rebranding this year’s ceremony to

FOYA2020EA. Nominees will include entrepreneurs from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

“We are pleased to launch FOYA2020EA and are confident that this edition will prove bigger and better in terms of participation and quality of nominations. With each edition, FOYA has grown from strength to strength attracting entrepreneurs across various disciplines providing outstanding solutions to challenges that we face daily in our quest for growth. For this fourth edition, we also look forward to expanding our ever-growing network of entrepreneurs, partners and sponsors,” said Moranga.

“We see ourselves as a convening platform where all these revolutionary ideas are showcased for the young entrepreneurs and all stakeholders that would want to help move the region forward. Our database of thousands of entrepreneurs is a repository for governments, NGOs, bilateral organizations, venture capitalists to drive growth, employment and trade”.

The call for entries will be extended starting today with a submission deadline of February 14, 2020.

FOYA’s goal is to strengthen entrepreneurship and encourage innovation ecosystems by supporting a culture of competitiveness, while spurring growth of market-driven solutions to African challenges.

Specifically, FOYA honours and encourages pioneering achievements that contribute towards

creation of new job opportunities across the region. Nominations for the awards will be accepted from all eligible participants residing in East Africa.

There will be awards in 14 categories clustered to accommodate nominees who are under 30 and those-above 30 years old but under 40, with over 5,000 entrepreneurs and support system actors expected to attend the award ceremony to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in June/July 2020.

Last year saw over 49,000 users access the FOYA website through which submission of the names of nominees for the awards and voting is done. The page recorded 143,598 views and a total of 53,567 votes were cast.
