NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6 – Centum Investment Plc’s private security and facility management subsidiary, Tribus TSG, is set to train up to 24,000 youths, including National Youth Service (NYS) graduates, over the next one year.

The training is intended to prepare the youths for deployment with Tribus’ clients across various sectors of the economy including fashion, driving, security, construction and business start-ups facilitation.

Tribus TSG, a 100 percent Centum-owned subsidiary, has so far employed 192 NYS graduates who offer private security, control room operations and training for clients.

“The training is aimed at route-to-market employment, which should see the creation of full time jobs for NYS and other youths,” said the Tribus TSG Managing Director James Nicholl.

In March this year Tribus signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government to assist with employment of NYS personnel as part of Centum’s support for the government’s agenda of creating employment opportunities under the Big Four development policy blueprint.

Under the MOU, the NYS facilitates recruitment and selection of youths for employment by Tribus TSG and also helps in processing of police clearance certificates for selected teams.

Centum, on the other hand, employs NYS graduates in line with positions available every year. The company also carries out market research and analysis to attain youth employment opportunities within the scope of the MOU.

The NYS youths, who are hired on a one-year renewable contract, earn between Sh25,000 to Sh40,000 per month. Potential candidates are taken through vigorous assessments to test their skills in communication, team work and leadership, fitness and psychometrics.

“This is our way of giving back to the community, by getting gainful employment for thousands of our jobless youths,” said the Centum Chief Executive James Mworia.

Tribus TSG has a diverse clientele base that includes NGOs, real estate, education, manufacturing, media and hospitality organisations. The company has exclusive distribution or re-seller rights for businesses and line item products that ultimately lead to better value for customers.
