NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 6 – The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) and I&M Bank have recently announced a partnership, which provides an online payment solution that can be used by KATA members to receive online payments worldwide.

KATA will now through this partnership become an Independent Sales Organization (ISO) authorized to resell the E-commerce solution to its members.

This move through I&M Bank’s E-Commerce platform will bring increased convenience to VISA, MasterCard and UnionPay cardholders transacting all over the world.

The collaboration between the two organizations will further smoothen the process of online payments by providing merchants a secure and convenient avenue with shorter payment turnaround times.

Speaking on behalf of the KATA Chairman, Mohammed Wanyoike, KATA CEO, Nicanor Sabula termed the move towards an e-commerce platform a big boost for KATA as it is well aligned with the Association’s long term agenda of promoting digital transformation among her member travel agencies.

“The travel industry has been one of the most disrupted industries by technology in the last decade. A great deal of business has gone online and it is important that our local travel agents leverage the online platforms in order to retain existing and acquire new clients.” He expressed confidence that the move towards having a safe and secure online payment platform for KATA members would help
them consolidate the online market place.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Kihara Maina, CEO, I&M Bank Limited noted that I&M Bank is the first Bank in the region to introduce online payment acceptance to the market.

Through I&M Bank’s Webpay service, the Bank focuses on providing clients with solutions that enable them to run their businesses.

“I&M Bank is keen on building partnerships. We state, as our purpose, that we are here to be partners for growth for all our stakeholders. Our customers are a key stakeholder for us and we are looking at ways that we can grow with them.”

He added that the partnership with KATA will enhance the tours and travel industry through e-commerce that allows merchants to enjoy the freedom of modern banking.
