NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 16 – Spanish delivery firm Glovo has announced plans to increase its footprint in Nairobi’s Ngong and Rongai satellite towns in the coming year while tapping on user experience through introduction of new features.
Glovo head of marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa Priscilla Muhiu says the firm is now concentrating on improving its areas of operation even as it plans on increasing its footprint in some of the city’s furthest regions.
“Distance is a major priority to us and we will do what we did with Kitengela by making the two areas to accessible, however, we first want to ensure that we have perfected where we are in operation first,” Muhiu said.
She added that in the coming year, the all service delivery is looking to explore different features that will smoothen customer use and experience.
“What we want to do is focus more on user experience and introduce features that improve user experience such as M-PESA integration which we will work on in the coming year,” she added.
Glovo was launched in Kenya in June this year and is so far operating in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru cities.
The Spanish start-up, which was founded in Barcelona in 2015, is an on-demand courier service that purchases, picks up, and delivers products ordered through its mobile app.
The firm also plans on widening its scope on partners and franchises that will help it reach its target of delivery on all services.
Since its launch in Kenya, the company has partnered with over 150 brands and franchises like retailer Carrefour and Naivas, Simbisa Africa and restaurant chain Artcaffe to deliver orders to customers.
The app charges a maximum delivery fee of Sh100, with customers within Nairobi Central Business District paying about Sh50.
In Africa, Glovo operates in Kenya, Morocco, Egypt and Ivory Coast with plans of expanding to Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.
The service is present in over 20 countries and more than 100 cities including Paris, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Cairo and now Nairobi.
Every month, around 3 million orders are being delivered through the app under an average delivery time of 45 minutes.
