NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 25 – South African firm City Lodge has opened a Sh2 billion hotel in Nairobi’s Two Rivers Mall, a 171-room four-star hotel.
The hotel, which has opened in phases, has been trading for the past two years, is the Group’s third property in the country.
The other include the 127-room four-star Fairview Hotel and the two-star 84-room Town Lodge Upper Hill.
Speaking during the official opening, Centum Director and industrialist Dr Chris Kirubi invited more investors into the hospitality industry, adding that the sector had opportunities for everyone.
City Lodge CEO Andrew Widegger said the company was looking forward to continued creation of employment in the Kenyan market. The new addition has over 300 Kenyan employees between the three hotels.
“We have been very satisfied investors in the Nairobi hotel market, with our first investment coming in 2012 with the purchase of 50 percent of Fairview Hotel and Town Lodge Upper Hill, formerly Country Lodge. We subsequently acquired the remaining 50 percent in 2014,” Widegger said.
Kenya Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife’s secretary administration David Jakaiti said the government is working tirelessly to provide an enabling environment for investors.
“We want to encourage and assure you of our partnership and our support to see to it that you achieve your intended objectives,” he said.
