French multinational AccorHotels to increase Kenya properties

The hotel will include 105 rooms and suites, four restaurants, a pool bar and a rooftop restaurant among others/FILE.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 – French hospitality group AccorHotels is set increase its footprint in Kenya with the launch of a 4- star premium boutique hotel in Gigiri.

The multinational hotelier has partnered with Jit Group, one of the region’s leading conglomerates, to launch the MGallery, a premium boutique hotel that is set to open in early 2021.

The hotel will include 105 rooms and suites, four restaurants, a pool bar and a rooftop restaurant among others.

Accor Middle East & Africa CEO Mark Willis says the company has been accelerating its footprint in Africa and is targeting key gateway cities such as Nairobi, as one of their priority markets for development.

The MGallery Hotel joins a family of five other properties that include Mövenpick Nairobi Hotel, Fairmont the Norfolk, and Ibis and Pullman, among others.

“Partnering with Jit Group not only cements our leadership presence in the city, but provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase our distinct and design-focused MGallery brand in the prestigious diplomatic district where demand for premium accommodation and facilities is growing at a rapid pace,” Willis said.

Willis adds that raising the MGallery flag in Kenya will further momentum to the company’s expansion plans in Africa where it is the leading and longest-serving hotel operator.

The company has more than 25,493 rooms across 158 properties in 22 countries and a pipeline of 10,744 rooms in 46 hotels.

It is on track to open 7 hotels in Africa in 2019 alone and 17 more in 2020.
