We Need Our Youth to Flourish #AskKirubi

In life, no one ever makes it alone. Look around you or even look at your life, where you were, where you are now and where you aim to be. You wouldn’t have made it by yourself. Someone held your hand, pushed you and believed in you more than you did in yourself.

I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to participate in building our economy to steer national development. I also strongly believe that now is the perfect time for the youth to take a more prominent role in shaping our economic trajectory.

It is high time we enhance the personal and career development of our young people and make them employable or be skilled to be entrepreneurs. As we continue to push development across the country, may we focus on training young people in each county so that they become self-independent and job creators.

I call upon our leaders to pay particular attention to the dreams and aspirations of our young people by creating a conducive environment for them to thrive. They are the reason our forefathers fought long and hard for self-governance and they are the reason our free nations exist today.

For those who have the privilege of working with and employing young people, please do not threaten their livelihoods. Join me in empowering and mentoring them. Give them the opportunity to learn and become better individuals. Don’t take advantage of them by making them work without pay or for less pay. The youth deserve to be treated equally and earn what they deserve and have worked for.

I hope we can all work together to empower the young people of this country and I hope the young people in turn, will not let us down.

A nation that does not take care of its youth is a failed nation.
