NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 24 – The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has partnered with Kenyatta University (KU) to bridge the engineering skills gap.
This will form a link that will see the development of new products and technology in electricity transmission through scholarships, research funding and knowledge management consultancy.
The scholarship, dubbed KETRACO Scholarship for Orphans & Vulnerable Students (KSOVS), will see KETRACO give Sh1 million worth of scholarship to educate two female orphaned and vulnerable students in the Electrical or Civil Engineering faculty for five years. The energy transmission company will also sponsor the Kenyatta University Biennial Research and Innovation Conference (KUBRIC) in October 2019 at the Bronze category with Sh1 million.
Moreover, the partnership will enable KETRACO to partner with the University’s Capacity Development and Consultancy Services Directorate to guide the transmission company on Knowledge Management relating to the role of energy transmission in the achievement of the Big Four Agenda.
Speaking during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, KETRACO’s Managing Director Fernandes Barasa noted that this is one of the initiatives that the transmission company has engaged in with leading institutions of higher learning to fulfill its vision of being a world-class electricity transmission company and the leading inter-connector in Africa.
“This partnership will facilitate mutual collaboration between us and KU that will enable us explore emerging trends in electricity transmission and research,” added Barasa.
Kenyatta University has been at the forefront in education matters as the fountain of education training in Kenya since 1965.
