KRA is urging Kenyans to continue filing their returns before the deadline next month/FILE
NAIROBI, Kenya, May 29- The Kenya Revenue Authority has assured taxpayers that there is no service disruption in all its operations following reports of a go-slow within the organization.
The authority has now said it is operating as usual and there are no services interrupted within the agency.
“Allegations of ‘staff go slow’ cannot be substantiated, since all Customs and Domestic Taxes operations are on-going,” reads a statement released on Wednesday.
KRA has urged Kenyans to continue filing their returns before the deadline next month.
“The iTax system is working and taxpayers should continue to file their returns and make payments,” it stated.
On the May 14 2019, the tax collector had allayed fears of service interruptions where top commissioners and some staff were planning a go slow to protest the arrest of their colleagues for abetting tax evasion and bribery.
The statement came after some members of the organizations shared messages on staff groups revealing a go slow where 48 KRA workers were said to be on the run.
The 38 suspects remanded over tax evasion claims at KRA were released on a cash bail of Sh200,000 each.
High Court judge Luka Kimaru directed that the suspects should report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations every day at 10am until he delivers a substantive ruling soon.
