Kenya Orient Insurance appoints former Centum executive as MD

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 9 – The Board of Directors of Kenya Orient Insurance Limited has announced the appointment of James Kaguchia, a former executive at Centum Investments, as the company’s acting Managing Director.

This follows the exit of Muema Muindi who has been appointed to head investment firm Daykio Group of Companies.

Kaguchia, who has until now been the Executive Director at Kenya Orient, will take up the role of Managing Director in an acting capacity subject tofurther regulatory approvals.

Muindi has served at the helm of Kenya Orient Insurance for thirteen years and was instrumental in its growth and transformation into one of the most innovative insurance firms in the country.

He now moves to Daykio Group of Companies, a diversified investment firm with interests in finance, insurance, banking, real estate and agribusiness, through various subsidiaries.

Mr Kaguchia has a wealth of knowledge having worked in various companies and capacities in the financial services sector. He is currently also a director at real estate development firm Daykio Plantations Limited.

Previously, he served as a director in charge of investments at listed firm Centum Investments Co Ltd and as CEO at Kewberg South Africa. He has also served in the Boards of General Motors East Africa, Kenya Wines Agencies Ltd, UAP Insurance Limited, Coca cola Bottlers, Nairobi Airport Services Ltd among others.

Kaguchia has also worked at General Motors and Toyota. He is expected to bring in his expertise in finance and investment to take Kenya Orient to the next level as the firm implements a five-year transformation strategy.

Kaguchia holds a Bachelors in Commerce degree (Accounting Option) from Kenyatta University, and is currently pursuing an MBA Degree at USIU. He has also attended various leadership and development courses at Strathmore University.

Making the announcement, Kenya Orient Board Chairman Julius Muya thanked Muindi for his exemplary service to the company.
