Diani Reef Hotel to double its conference business after joining ICCA

Kamani said they have joined the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) to help them grow their international conferencing business/FILE

MOMBASA, Kenya, May 20 – The Diani Reef Beach Hotel is geared towards doubling its conferencing business this year, Managing Director Bobby Kamani said on Monday.

Kamani said they have joined the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) to help them grow their international conferencing business.

ICCA is the global community with expertise in the international association meetings market. It has over 1,100 member companies and organization in almost 100 countries worldwide.

In a statement to media houses, Kamani said they want to tap onto the partnership with ICCA to grow their conference business by two folds this year.

“We have been organizing major conferences that emanate locally, but this membership will enable us bring in international conferences to our facility,” he said.

He said the partnership with ICCA will not only help market Diani Reef Hotel as a tourism attraction destination, but also a business and conferencing destination.

Last month, Diani Reef was awarded five-star rating by the Kenya Tourism Regulatory Authority.

To tap onto this growing conferencing market potential, Kamani said, they have invested a Sh100 million ultra-modern conference facility which has a capacity to host over 1,000 people at Diani Reef Hotel.

“Our conference facility is an ultra-modern and state of the art that enables businesses and governments to host international and local conferences without worrying about capacity. We can host up to 1,000 people at the same time with different breakout sessions at the same time thus making us the one of the largest in the coast,” he said.

He said Kenya has been able to host several international conferences among them; TICAD and UNCTAD because of its strategic and geographical location.

This gives Kenya an edge to hosting more international conferences, he said.

“Therefore, Diani Reef is suit to offer the same product to ensure visitors have an opportunity to enjoy the touristic sites as well as transact business in more relaxed and conducive manner,” he said.

ICCA, which was established in 1963, is specialized in the international association meetings sector, offering unrivalled data, communication channels, and business development opportunities.

According to ICCA Africa Regional Director, Esmare Steinhofel, they represent the world’s top destinations and most experienced and leading suppliers specialized in handling, transporting and accommodating international meetings and events.

“International meeting planners like Diani Reef can now rely on the ICCA network to find solutions for all their event objectives. Kenya has held major international conferences and we believe ICCA will also help market Diani Reef as a conferencing destination,” said Steinhofel.
