Posta expands logistics business with Nairobi hub

Customers can now use Posta Cargo to deliver goods and parcels in 192 countries as the corporation also explores how it can tap e-commerce.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 12 – Postal Cooperation of Kenya is re-inventing itself by expanding its clearing and forwarding services with the opening of a Nairobi logistics hub.

Customers can now use Posta Cargo to deliver goods and parcels in 192 countries as the corporation also explores how it can tap e-commerce.

During the official launch at Posta Cargo based along Machakos road, Industrial Area, Principle Secretary state department for ICT Jerome said the new venture is the best option as the cooperation engages technology to transform the parastatal.

“We are focusing on e-commerce and this will make it easy to do businesses. We have a system to help monitor a parcel delivery to its destination. Customers will also have it easy in terms of receiving their goods since KRA will also conduct their taxation from here so you can just come and pick your parcel within 3 minutes,” he said.

Posta Chief Executive Officer Dan Kagwe said the second warehouse – after Mombasa –  presents the opportunity to grow and improve the cooperation’s revenue base.

“The region is fast evolving and we have to tap into the new development that is happening in different regions. We will generate more revenue, but the bigger opportunity is to serve our local and international customers,” said Kagwe.

Once it is fully adopted, Posta cargo will move up to 350 tonnes across the country. This is going to ensure that huge containers will also be moved to help organizations import and export items in a transparent manner to all destination.
