In addition, being Kenyans who love bargains and discounts, your guess on how many of us took them up is as good as mine. Well, if you grabbed an economy class ticket here are some things you should know before your flight.

Moreover, you do not have to feel homesick as the airline recently added movies (channel 1750 – 1759) and music from Africa (channel 5180 – 5280) on the 16:9 screen. It is so ironic that the wines cart stopped next to me while I was listening to Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s Umqombothi on Channel 5186.

The airline tries it best to curate meals based on the route it is flying using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. As a foodie, I must say our dinner was very nutritious. We had chickpea salad as a starter which I must Google the recipe. We had two options for the main course between the chicken ragout and lamb curry. I settled for the lamb as red meat rules my world. My sweet tooth was finally satiated with the vanilla mousse.
Room for some legwork
While the five-hour trip from Nairobi to Dubai is not a long one, legroom is important to avoid swollen feet and other small complications related to immobility for a long period. The wonderfully upholstered seats on the Emirates B777 – 300 are well spaced with just enough width between you and your neighbour.
Baggage is welcome
Rob Liano once said “Everyone has baggage, maybe we should help each other carry it” and this is exactly what Emirates promises. All Economy travellers have a two-luggage allowance of up to 35 kilograms each and a hand luggage of seven kilograms. I just hope I do not go overboard with the weight after my day of shopping in Dubai.
