APA Apollo Foundation partners with Ace Africa to revamp school

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 18 – The APA Apollo Foundation in collaboration with the APA Insurance partnered with Ace Africa to construct two girls’ toilets and shower facilities at Kudho Primary School, Kisumu.

The school which has over 1013 boys and girls was severely short of appropriate facilities.

With the help and support from the APA Apollo Foundation, the three APA branches and Ace Africa oversaw the expansion of the school’s sanitation facilities aiming to address the students’ basic sanitary needs, improve their surroundings and help them concentrate upon their studies.

Public schools in Kenya experienced increase in enrollment following the 2003 re-introduction of free primary education which was aimed at providing more opportunities for out of school children.

Within one year of implementation UNESCO, 2005 reported an increase in gross enrollment rate (GER) which resulted in more than 1.5 million out of school children joining primary schools.

However, school facilities and infrastructure proved to be a challenge as classes became congested with limited physical facilities, sanitary and hygienic toilet facilities.
