NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 24 – Five suspects have been arrested and a vehicle impounded at an illegal site Kisumu County by the Energy Regulatory Commission as part of an operation against illicit trade and export of fuel.

During the raid, which was conducted in collaboration with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the General Service Unit officers on Wednesday, ERC recovered a total of 4,500 litres of export diesel.

“During the operation, five (5) suspects were arrested and a vehicle registration No. KAN 022C impounded. The five suspects were arraigned in court on the same day and charged with operating petroleum business without a permit contrary to section 80(1) of the Energy Act 2006,” a statement from ERC says.

ERC says that it will demolish the illegal site in accordance with its legal frameworks.

Earlier this week, over 1,000 litres of adulterated fuel was recovered by the commission in Salgaa Nakuru County and 46 people arrested.
