NAIROBI, Kenya, May 21 – Latest statistics show that the rate of raw milk uptake by New KCC has increased sharply, in what has been welcomed by farmers and other stakeholders in the dairy industry.

The statistics are contained in the Kenya Dairy Board 2017 data, that shows that New KCC now boasts of 35 percent of the raw milk market.

The state-owned dairy recorded a 2 percent growth compared to the previous year.

The latest statistics show that New KCC is inching closer to Brookside which has a 40 percent share.

Githunguri Dairy Farmers Co-operative is the third biggest dairy with a 10 percent market share.

The dairy firms had experienced challenges at the beginning of 2018 and for the better part of last year due to insufficient milk from farmers which was blamed on drought.

But industry players now say the situation is set to improve due to the heavy rains experienced across the country.
