NAIROBI, Kenya, May 5 – In this second episode of our exclusive interview with Centum Investment Chief Executive Office, James Mworia, he shares his secret on how he became a CEO in seven years, starting off as an intern in a filing room at ICDC, despite his stellar academic papers.
Crucial to this meteoric rise is an insatiable desire to learn and a very clear picture of where he wanted to be in his career.
His intentional and deliberate learning process included job-shadowing, volunteering and role-playing which prepared him to lead one of East Africa’s foremost investment firm when he was in his early 30’s.
Mworia is also known as one of the best-paid CEOs in Kenya but he demystifies this notion by explaining his role in the company.
“I do not consider myself as an employee so I wasn’t looking at the salary, perks and so on…my big agenda was how we were going to value and how we are going to share in that value.”
