300 MPs from ACP-EU converge in Nairobi next week

The joint meeting comes at a time when Kenya is pushing for value addition on agricultural products and pursuing food security as part of Big Four agenda/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 7 – More than 300 Members Parliament from the African, Caribbean and Pacific states –European Union countries are expected to converge in Nairobi next week to kick off a regional meeting of a joint parliamentary assembly.

The meeting will be opened by the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi under the theme of ‘An Overview of Agricultural inputs in Kenya’.

The co-presidents of the two trading blocs will address the delegates as well as the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma who will deliver Kenya’s presentation on behalf of the Deputy President.

The joint meeting comes at a time when Kenya is pushing for value addition on agricultural products and pursuing food security as part of Big four agenda.

The Assembly was created out of a common desire to bring together the elected representatives of the European Community and the elected representatives of the ACP Countries that have signed the Cotonou Agreement.
