Government to finalize Third Medium Term Plan

In the 2018 – 2022 plan period, Kenya will focus keenly to implement the Big 4 Strategic Initiatives that seeks to promote development of manufacturing, housing, food and nutrition security and universal healthcare.

NAIVASHA, Kenya, Mar 13 – The Principal Secretary for Ministry of Planning, Dr. Julius Muia has assured that the Third Kenya Vision 2030 Medium Term Plan (MTP III) will soon succeed the Second MTP 2013-2017. 

The PS said that the plan will be guided by Kenya Vision 2030 and the country’s long-term development strategy which seeks to transform Kenya into a newly industrializing upper middle-income country.

“As you are aware,  the Third MTP will succeed the Second MTP January 2013 – December 2017 and will implement the third cycle of the country’s transformative agenda and the KenyaVision 2030,” said Dr. Muia.

He added that the MTP is a major policy document that offers a clear roadmap of where the country wants to be in the next five years.

The PS was speaking in Naivasha today when he officially opened Third MTP Editing retreat. The Directorate of Planning is mandated to spearhead and coordinate the process and its production.

Dr. Muia pointed out that the plan will also emphasizes on structural transformation of the economy in terms of increasing the share of manufacturing and industrial sectors and increasing the share of exports to GDP.

At the same time, it will aim at improving governance and accountability, deepening public sector reforms and strengthening the capacity of County Goverments.

More importantly, as the county governments are finalizing their County Integrated  Development Plans (CIDPs), they are expected to align their programmes and projects to the Third MTP as outlined by the constitution 2010.

The PS revealed that the Third MTP will be launched by H.E. The President. The Plans will thereafter be disseminated to all the 47 counties; Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs); Development partners and other stakeholders.
