NYERI, Kenya, June 14 – Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore has said that the mobile operator will extend its M-PESA services to other African countries starting next year.

Speaking after opening the Mt Kenya and North Eastern Regional headquarters in Nyeri, Collymore said that African Heads of States have seen the impact M-PESA has created in the Kenyan society and would like the same replicated in their countries.

In addition, he said that the expansion will increase the profit margin by a huge percentage.

The fifth headquarters will be the centre of operations for Mt Kenya and North Eastern Region serving customers from 17 counties including Marsabit, Samburu and Garissa.

The mobile operator started implementing its regional strategy two years ago, a move that has seen services previously offered at Nairobi decentralised to six regions.

“Decentralising our services through Mt Kenya and North Eastern will enable us to be closer to our customers in the 17 counties and give a better understanding of customer needs,” said Collymore.
