PRSK Executive Committee

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 28 – The members of the umbrella national Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) have voted in a crop of new officials to steer the organization for a two-year renewable term.

The members, comprising of Public Communication practitioners, Corporate Communication consultants, Academics among others voted in new office bearers last evening during the Society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Laico Regency Hotel.

During the AGM and Executive Committee polls, the immediate former President Ms. Jane Gitau, successfully managed to defend her seat, garnering majority of votes from the PRSK membership.

Alongside Ms. Gitau, other elected PRSK officials now include Vice President, Dr. Wilfred Marube, Secretary, Lilian Nganda, Treasurer, Arik Karani, Assistant Secretary Beatrice Kungu and Assistant Treasurer Michelle Anekeya. Other elected officials include Council Members Dr. Haroun Mwangi, Tim Kamuzu Banda and Alfred Ng’ang’a.

Speaking moments after the electoral process, PRSK President-Elect, Jane Gitau, who is also the Secretary General of the Africa Public Relations Association (APRA), pledged to spearhead ongoing efforts to further entrench the professional role of Public Relations in the public and private sectors.

The society, she said will actively pursue the necessary frameworks to further position the Public Relations (PR) practice as a critical professional discipline. Efforts to mobilise a higher active membership roll, she added, are also at an advanced stage.

“The new leadership team is committed to advancing the role of Public Relations as a functional management role and a critical national and economic development enabler,” Ms. Gitau said, adding that, “We shall be actively seeking to forge mutually beneficial partnerships and the much needed legislative recognition of the society even as we seek to recruit more members.”

PRSK, with more than 500 active members, was established in 1971 and serves as the professional body guiding the PR practice in Kenya. The Society broadly seeks to advance excellence in Public Relations and Communication Management in Kenya and to ensure that the practice continues to thrive within the ethical framework defined by the profession.

Within the East African Region, PRSK is a member of the East African Public Relations Association (EAPRA).  PRSK is also a member of the Africa Public Relations Association (APRA), the continental body for all PR national associations in Africa.  At the global level, PRSK is a founder member of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management (GA) among other global bodies such as the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
