, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has increased the petroleum pump prices by up to Sh3.38 for Super Petrol per litre in Nairobi, after motorists enjoyed lower prices in September.

In Nairobi, super petrol will retail at Sh94.94 per litre, diesel at Sh82.17 per litre while kerosene increases to Sh62.16 per litre.

“The changes in this month’s prices are a consequence of the average landed cost of imported super petrol increasing by 8.12 percent in May 2016, diesel increased by 0.05 percent and kerosene increased by 10.68 percent,” ERC Director General Joseph Ng’ang’a said in a statement.

In Mombasa, a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh91.53, diesel at Sh78.79 and kerosene at Sh59.31 while in Nakuru a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh95.70 while that of diesel will retail at Sh83.12 and kerosene will retail at Sh63.04.

In Eldoret a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh96.88, diesel at Sh84.30 and kerosene at Sh64.11, while in Kisumu a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh96.95 while that of diesel will retail at Sh84.37. Kerosene will retail at Sh64.10.

ERC indicates the product cost per litre of super petrol as Sh40.64 while distribution and storage costs, margins, taxes and levies add to Sh54.30.

“The purpose of the fuel pricing regulations is to cap the pump prices of the products which are already in the country, so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered, while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” said Ng’ang’a.

Meanwhile, the international price of oil fell to a three-month low on the possibility of another year of oversupply and suppressed prices at $44.26 per barrel.
