Water access in Nairobi set to improve in Sh180bn plan

Lack of water has over the years been attributed to poor governance. As a result, millions of people are prevented from accessing clean water that is safe for domestic consumption. Additionally, many people in the country have as a result become exposed to recurrent droughts, and the contamination of the available water.

“It is also worth to note that there are people living close to water generating sources but do not have water themselves because the available water is piped to other places,” said the Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium Ivan Koulagenko.

“We are therefore ensuring that the water project includes those close to the source to ensure equal access,” Koulagenko said. The Belgian government on its part has been involved in various water projects in the country including the Ithanga Water project, whose first phase will cost Sh1.2 billion.
