, NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 28 – About 1.2 million Kenyans have so far filed their annual returns through the iTax system ahead of the June 30, 2016 deadline.
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) acting Domestic Taxes Commissioner Benson Korongo says the system has been receiving approximately 70, 000 returns daily and the number is expected to go up as taxpayers make efforts to meet the deadline.
KRA has already set up 21 iTax Support Centres and has presence in 37 Huduma Centres throughout the country.
Three more centres are set to be opened up this week in Central Region.
“KRA has in the last three months trained over 40,000 Kenyans on how to file their tax returns online. To support taxpayers in meeting their deadline of June 30, KRA has for the past weeks been reaching out to taxpayers through on ground activations countrywide,” Korongo added.
The Authority urges taxpayers to seek assistance at the iTax Support Centres across the country, if they have challenges in filing returns.
The iTax Support Centres countrywide have also been opened for extended hours to the public ahead of the deadline for filing the returns.
“The Centres have been open Mondays to Fridays from 7:00 am.-7:00 pm., Saturday from 8:00 am.-5:00 pm. and Sunday from 10:00 am.-4:00 pm,” he explained.
KRA continues to hold sensitizations to educate taxpayers on how to file their returns, the benefits of filing the returns and the need to file the returns early enough to avoid last minute rushes.
During the sensitization programs, KRA officers are deployed on the ground to assist taxpayers.
The iTax System gives taxpayers the luxury of filing returns from the comfort of their homes or offices at any hour of day or night.
