NAIROBI, Kenya, May 19 – Kenya has been named the Best Place or Nation Brand at the 2016 Transform Mena Awards.
The country was recognised for her branding journey following the ‘Make it Kenya’ campaign which has been positioning it as the destination of choice for trade, tourism and investment.
“This was a very well executed campaign. What stood out the most was not just the fact that it effectively met the challenge at hand or had a nice logo, but rather that the strategy was very comprehensive. The branding translated well across all channels,” said one of the judges during the awards.
Developed and launched last year by the Ministry of Tourism, the campaign was aimed at countering the image of the country as an insecure destination.
It was also intended to inspire pride in Kenyans while also providing tourists with an engaging selection of branded content. Additionally, the campaign was intended to lure businesses interested in Kenya while also providing tourists with an engaging selection of branded content.
The accolade comes at a time when the Brand Kenya Board has reported an improvement in the country’s perception in the international scene.
“Kenya is an easy sell abroad and you can see that we are gaining international recognition. Kenyans need to appreciate Kenya more and work at improving the image instead of tearing each other apart,” said Brand Kenya Board’s Acting CEO Mary Luseka.
The Transform Mena Awards recognise best practices in corporate product and global brand development work with categories that focus on strategy, execution, content and evaluation.
The recognition also comes at a time when the country has been feted the Africa Excellence Award under the Travel and Tourism for social media campaign Mara Live.
