, NAIROBI, Kenya, March 23, – Huawei has announced the introduction of three mid-level Smartphones, Y6Pro, GR3 and GR5 into the Kenyan market.
The move is aimed at helping the company to capture not only the country’s mid-level but also the low and high-end market segments. Last month, Huawei launched its flagship device, Mate 8, targeted at the CIOs and professionals.
Making the announcement, Huawei Devices Kenya Country Manager Mark Hemaobin, said the company was keen on capturing all market segments by introducing devices that target low, middle and high-end customers in line with the changing consumer preferences.
“At Huawei, we are building a broad portfolio of products catering for the varied taste of consumers. We understand that Kenya is a unique market wherein some consumers are price sensitive, others demand for quality and style in their mobile phones. Our range of products in this country reiterates our focus on providing smart devices targeting different segments of the local market. Our newly launched devices will help us to reach a wide range of consumers in Kenya,” he said.
The three devices Y6Pro, GR3 and GR5 will be retailing at Sh16,999, Sh20,999, Sh27,999.
Huawei GR5 is easy to use and has a fast responding 2nd generation fingerprint scanner with the 360-degree sensor that allows the user to control their device with a simple touch. This device has a long lasting battery, 3000mAh Li-Polymer, and is designed for convenience and single-handed use, 16GB memory, 2GB RAM, expandable memory with microSD, up to 128GB (uses SIM 2 slot) and 64-bit octa-core MSM8939 processor.
Huawei GR3 on the other hand comes with a 5.0-inch HD display and is powered by a 1.5 GHz 64-bit Octa core MediaTek MTK6753T processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out of the box with Emotion UI 3.1 Lite on top. It features a 13-megapixel AF rear camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera just like the GR5.
The Huawei Y6Pro is powered by a MediaTek MT6735P SoC with quad-core 1.3GHz CPU, and sports a 5-inch HD display. It comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory, and packs in a large 4,000mAh battery that ensures long-lasting performance. With the Smart Power Saving technology using eight separate power-optimization approaches, the device can work in idle mode for 24 hours, with only 10 percent battery charge. Able to act as a charger for other electronics, providing 15 hours of data use, 39 hours of talk time, 48 hours of heavy use time, and 90 hours of light use time.
The three devices will also be retailing at Fone Express, Tuscom, Naivacom, Phonelink and other authorized retail outlets countrywide.
The company is looking to capture 25 percent share in Kenya’s Smartphone market.
