Ask Kirubi: 2016, The Journey Continues

Ask-Kirubi-2016

Happy New Year dear friends!

It’s my hope that you began the year well and are now energized to achieve what you have set out for 2016. When we last interacted, I was able to give you a few steps on how you can avoid the January blues. Hopefully, most of you are well prepared and will not curse this great month of January but instead count your blessings.

Beginning the year and going through it debt free allows you to focus all your energies on achieving your goals and success. Never let pride keep you in debt. It’s not worth it.

Majority of us seem to believe that you must set New Year resolutions or goals each year despite the fact that many of them go unaccomplished. Do not waste your time setting goals that you know very well you will not achieve. Set few balanced goals that you will be able to assess over a period of time and complete them.

Do not be worried if at all the year has gone by and you have not achieved what you set out to achieve. A wise man once said, “If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan but never the goal.” Evaluate the strategy you used and see where you went wrong. Revise your plan and create concrete milestones that will help you achieve the overall goal.

As you continue to embark on your journey to success, appreciate the blessings you have (family, health, business, job, friends etc.). A positive attitude generates positive thoughts, events and outcomes. Life will throw whatever it can, but its impact on you will entirely depend on how you respond. Create a positive buzz around you. It’s a choice you have to make on a daily basis and definitely the best choice to start the year with.

Learn to focus on the meaningful few things. I hate clutter and someone who wants to be involved in everything but completes nothing reminds me of this. Disorder and confusion will never lead you to success. You are better off doing fewer important things than doing a lot of unimportant things. Choose wisely.

Every year gives you another chance to approach life in a different way and work with pride and passion. Wear your shirt, suit, uniform etc. and execute your roles and responsibilities with pride. Making money is good but strive to create a positive difference in the lives of those around you. Show contentment and fulfillment as you serve because one day you too will be served. Always create meaning and purpose around your work.

2015 is done my friends. You can’t go back. Stop counting the regrets and throwing yourself a pity party; count your blessings and move on.
