NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4 – Equity Bank has partnered with the Catholic Church as a platinum sponsor for the upcoming historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Kenya.

The bank donated Sh10million to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) to support ongoing preparations by the Catholic Church to welcome the Pope.

Speaking during the event held at Donum Dei Karen, Gerald Warui, Director of Operations Equity Bank said “We value the existing relationship between Equity Bank and the Catholic Church and we remain committed to supporting the Church.”

Bishop Philip Anyolo, Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) thanked the Bank for its benevolence and pledged to work with the company in its empowerment agenda. “We congratulate this support from Equity Bank,” said Bishop Anyolo, “We are all called to ordinance as Christians towards holiness….but this is not without faith. Your donation shows you are together with us. With faith, we can bring down mountains.”

Bishop James Wainaina, Chair of the Papal visit Fundraising Committee acknowledged the continuous support and the existing relationship between the Bank and the Catholic Church.

“Equity Bank has been a banking institution that has been very close to the Church,” Bishop Wainaina said, “We are happy that they have supported us not only in this particular function that we have but also in other activities.”
