, NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 – Set goals in all areas of your life, challenges Dr Chris Kirubi. According to the industrialist and business magnate, having well planned goals will help the youth achieve success in all areas of their lives.
“You cannot be making goals for the companies you work for and yet you do not have personal goals or those of your career. How will you know where you are going if you do not plan and have no goals?” he challenged the youth during this year’s Centum Graduation Program of its 2014 trainees.
The industrialist also called out to the youth to start practicing leadership in their early days even before leadership roles are handed to them.
“Being a leader means dedicating your life for the service of others. I believe in the youth, which is why I have devoted my entire life to young people because they hold the solutions that Africa needs. That is why you need to learn what leadership is so that you too, you can serve the society.”
Centum Investment Group initiated The Centum Graduate Program which scouts for youths with brilliant ideas in areas such as ICT, Financial Services and Engineering among others. The graduating class of 2014 had for instance attracted around ten thousand people from whom only twenty two were chosen after undergoing different tests.
These were then trained in their respective sectors upon which they graduate and get absorbed in Centum’s different sectors.
“I want to challenge today’s graduates, and every other youth in this room and beyond, to follow your passion and do what you love doing. If you pursue your passion, you will always be on holiday because of the satisfaction a job you love gives,” he added.
James Mworia, Centum’s Group CEO, also called out to the graduating class and the youth at large to live lives that make impact on the society.
“There are people who are born then die and get forgotten because they did not leave any mark in the world. Do not be that person,” Mworia cautioned.
He then called out to the graduates to follow principles that would guarantee them success. These include having commitment to tasks handed to them in their careers and their lives.
“You also need to have commitment to results. Many people have either results or reasons. Decide today the kind of person you want to be; one who delivers results or always has reasons for not having results.”
Additionally, Mworia asked the youth to think without having limits. This, he said, would open up the mind to more possibilities. Other principles that would deliver success to the youth include hunger for success, having a learning mindset, having skills and a character that is bankable and being able to work with others among others.
“The problem with our society has been the classroom mentality that teaches people to be competitive and achieve things alone. This cannot work anymore if we are to go far into the future. We need to work together, that way, we can all achieve greater things going forward,” he said.
Going forward, Centum Graduation Program is currently training twelve young people who are expected to work in the various sectors that Centum invests in.
