NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 20 – Safaricom has announced the launch of “Advantage Plus,” a new post-pay tariff offering bundled Voice, SMS and Data services.

Available to all Safaricom customers who may wish to migrate to the monthly post-pay service, the bundle offers a choice of three price points ranging from an entry level Sh2,999 package to the more versatile Sh9,999 offering.

“As the market transforms in line with new shifts in customer behaviour, our new offering intends to take advantage of the increasing demand for blended offerings that span across voice and data. Advantage Plus will enable subscribers to access up to 85percent more value as compared to our other tariffs,” said Sylvia Mulinge, Director – Consumer Business Unit, Safaricom.

Although Kenya remains a predominantly pre-pay market, Safaricom has noted the continued need to cater for increasing demand from customers who are attracted to the post-pay concept and who are keen to extract as much value from their mobile use.

The introduction of Advantage Plus will supplement the successful Karibu post-pay bundle scheme introduced in October 2011, which saw the number of Safaricom subscribers on the post-pay tariffs increase to over 700,000 by December 2015.

The new service launched just a few days after Safaricom announced a fresh suite of new data products that will offer its subscribers an enhanced user experience with access to faster data, in a strategic move aimed at reaffirming its growing demand for data products among the core pre-pay subscriber base.

For the first time in the market, subscribers will be able to sign up for the service using their phones, without needing to go into a retail outlet. Safaricom customers will simply need to dial *100# from their pre-pay lines or *200# from their post-pay lines to subscribe to the Advantage Plus plan.

Advantage Plus will offer subscribers increased value for mobile telephony services at rates that are significantly lower than market rates.

Because of the exceptional value being provided by the Advantage Plus value proposition and the fact that consumers have three options to pick from, the package will be available on a 30-day basis with no rollover of resources.

Safaricom is retaining Karibu post-pay for existing Karibu post-pay customers. Existing Safaricom Karibu post-pay customers will be able to join the Advantage Plus packages on a voluntary basis. Their existing resources will be moved to Advantage Plus and the prevailing expiry dates will apply.
