The Fellows also discussed youth employment and entrepreneurship and inclusive development. Entrepreneurship was however at the heart of the matter as it coincides with President Obama’s Global Entrepreneurship Summit which he will be attending in Nairobi this July.
“President Obama’s vision is that every young African who has an idea gets to pursue it through entrepreneurship. There is a real possibility for our society to be transformed through entrepreneurship,” said Runyan.
It also coincides with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s official launch of the Summit at the Strathmore Business School.
Going forward, YALI plans to increase the number of fellows admitted each year from 500 to 1,000. “We hope that with the new number, we can be able to help more Young African Leaders realize their dreams and transform their societies,” concluded Runyan.
