Vacancy: Sales Director


Our client is a commercial provider of PayGo solar systems to rural off-grid communities. With the widest reach of any provider in sub Saharan Africa, the company is addressing the problem of energy access which affects the 1.3 billion people around the world who lack access to the grid.They use mobile technology to turn a development challenge into a business challenge through its solar home systems, which allow users to pay for solar power on a pay-as-you-go basis, just like they do for their phones and kerosene. This provides clean, safe renewable power to families at about half the cost of the kerosene it replaces, without the need for any government subsidies or tariffs.

They combine mobile and solar technologies with other consumer electronics, enabling customers to benefit from a rent-to-buy approach that delivers the benefits of modern technology long before they could save up to purchase it outright
In line with the business demands driven by rapid growth, they are looking for a qualified, highly competent results driven individual to fill the position of a Sales Director. The role reports to the Vice President-Sales.

Job Purpose/Summary

The job holder will be responsible for the acquisition of and development of distribution partners in specified territories primarily in East Africa. The Sales Director will spearhead the creation of compelling partnership propositions that will engage the partners at scale and execute the delivery of sales numbers associated with these major accounts.
Duties and Responsibilities
 Develop new strategies, tactics, and plans for future growth of company’s market share and outreach.
 Oversee the planning and organizing of the company’s sales strategy by maximizing the Return on Time Investment for each territory/segment.
 Generate reports based on facts to be presented before the senior level managers and shareholders.
 Meet the sales target set within the given deadline with restricted territory and accounts.
 Build up a better customer relationship, understand their needs, and try to make them satisfied without compromising with the company profits.
 Represent the company’s business policies in various conferences, trade fairs and networking events to attract more clients.
 Effectively communicate the value proposals with different presentations.
 Coordinate the sales operations with all the other departments of the company.
 Establish performance goal for each sales employee and monitor if the employee is able to meet up the expectations or not.
 Continuously motivate the sales team, and inspire them to stay focused on company’s goals.
 Participate in establishing, developing and maintaining business relationships with partners, customers and distributors.
 Communicates the company’s value proposition to existing and prospective customers
 Coordinates sales efforts with the management team and make regular updates to the senior management team in the UK.
 Travel across various countries if required to attend various seminars and events.

Required Qualifications
 Bachelor’s degree in any Business related field.
 An MBA will be added advantage.
 Minimum of 10 years relevant sales experience in a senior management position is highly desirable.
 Previous experience in the solar industry using mobile payment platform is highly desirable.
 Proven experience in developing value chains and ability to drive a commercial agenda.
 Proven track record of selling a service oriented product in emerging markets.
 Demonstrated experience of building a channel from scratch, working with $ 50 million plus businesses.
 The gravitas and depth to be able to present at the highest levels, including CxO and ministerial level within Government in the target countries.
 Ability to engage and develop business at the CxO level, building business propositions and developing the network of relationships required to close a complex sale.
 Business experience to bring complex deals to closure in a timely manner.
 A structured approach to identification, selection, acquisition and management of channel partners.
 Self-driving, goal-oriented and able to work independently for long periods without supervision
 Outgoing personality, always seeking to expand the reach of the company
 A consultative and sympathetic style aimed at forming deep and profitable relationships with partners
 Sales discipline to manage the opportunity pipeline and provide accurate forecast and related business information
